Big Ben Bora 57 Smooth Horn Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm

Big Ben is a Dutch pipe brand presently owned by Gubbels, the same company that currently manufactures Hilson and Bentley pipes. Though, as with many brands owned by Gubbels, there’s a long history to it, especially being one of the very few major pipe brands to have come out of the Netherlands. Big Ben’s Bora series is an interesting one. On the one hand, each design in the series is highly distinctive, seeming to allude to staples in the world of Scandinavian pipe making. On the other, the series was designed with practicality as a foremost concern, with each being compact, relatively lightweight, and a sitter. It’s a curious synthesis, and one whose results tend to be something like this: a paneled horn in the vein of the famous Swedish “Olifant,” yet scaled down so that it easily fits in one’s pocket. On a last note, while many pipes in the Bora series wear matte finishes, this one looks to wear the higher-grade Nature finish, which focuses more on the excellent, natural patterning of the briar. This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
